A lot of golf courses have drainage problems. In a number of cases this is caused by the fact that the course was built on poor soil (clay, peat), or because not enough sub-surface drainage pipes were put in during construction.
But in most cases the problem is caused by poor surface drainage, especially around the greens. It is vital that the design allows water to drain naturally from the green and the approach, while at the same time keeping the walk on and walk off of the green dry.
Luckily in most cases drainage problems can be resolved with a number of relatively simple and inexpensive changes.
