
After a final routing has been chosen, a detailed design is made per hole, in which the strategy, the visual style, the greens, tees and bunkers, the mowing paterns and rough, the surface drainage, the plating scheme's and the lakes are indicated per hole. During this phase there will also be an initial cut and fill estimate, and an initial bill of quantities is established.
It is crucial that the resulting Master plan looks good; in the end this is the plan that needs to be sold to all parties involved. This was no different in the days of Colt and MacKenzie; they to spent a lot of time on the making of a Master plan.
