In November 2004 Frank undertook the renovation of the greencomplex of hole B3 of the Kennemer.
The original Colt hole had been extended in the middle of the eighties by Frank Pennink from a pr 4 to a par 5. In the process the new green had been built behind a number of large Scottish Pine trees, which half blocked the approach shot to the green. Given that this was in direct conflict with Colts design principles, Frank proposed to remove the trees.
The other issue was the fact that the green surrounds were rather unnatural and did not prent the player with enough challenges. For this reason Frank created a deep Colt style grassy hollow on the right side of the green and used the surplus soil to blend the green better in with the area left of the green.
Especially the grassy hollow feature has cost many a pro one or more shots during past Dutch Open tournaments (see picture above).
