In 2007 Frank restored a number of bunkers on holes 1 and 2 of Cruden Bay.

At hole 1, a tough par 4 opening hole, the greenside bunker in a previous renovation had become to shallow and had lost its original shape. Furthermore it was felt that the ground in front should be feeding more balls into the bunker, the bunker should be more visible from the fairway and that the bunker should be moved slightly more in front of the green

At hole 2, a relatively easy par 4, two new fairway bunkers were added to make the hole strategically more inteersting for the better players. First a fairway bunker was added at the spot where most drives of the better players were landing (see above), and another fairway bunker was added to the far right to keep players honest in avoiding the bunkers in front.
